Caprock Renewables was founded in 2015 by Raina Hornaday as a utility scale developer focusing on large-scale solar in South Texas. Caprock Renewables developed a 136MWac solar development in Starr County, Texas that was sold to LightsourceBP and reached COD in December 2024 as well as a 258MWac solar development in Goliad County, that was sold to ENGIE and also reached COD in December 2024. Raina has since formed several related companies, including Caprock RE LLC with her business partner, Dale A. Vander Woude.
Caprock RE is a small utility scale “Texas Ten” developer of stand-alone BESS and hybrid BESS / solar projects primarily operating in ERCOT, with early-stage projects in MISO and SPP as well. Caprock RE has sold a portfolio of projects and has entered into a second joint development of a portfolio of “Texas Tens”, where it will retain a long-term ownership position on the projects. Caprock is focused on developing in the ERCOT market because of the shorter DG interconnection process, existing relationships with interconnecting utilities, and strong projected growth of solar & BESS.
